Dylan Charles is a singer/songwriter based in New York City. His music runs the gamut from acoustic americana and rock/blues to jazzy soul and electo-pop. Touring nationally as a solo act and as a bandleader, he also co-founded and continues to perform with NYC soul band On The Sun and Arizona-based americana band The Border Crossers. In addition to his own projects, he frequently works with other artists as a multi-instrumentalist sideman, producer, co-writer and studio musician. Dylan has been playing guitar for over 20 years and teaching almost as long. He started working with New York City Guitar School when he moved to NYC in 2012 and is currently the program director for the school’s Rock Band program as well as a teacher at the Midtown and Brooklyn locations. In high school he taught lessons to fellow teens as part of a “Community Resources” program in his home town of Ann Arbor, MI. He frequently played local gigs through the Community High School jazz band program as well as with his own original music projects. He continued to teach, perform and record while studying jazz guitar at University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2006. In 2008 Dylan moved to Bisbee, AZ where he created and coached an after school rock band program at the Bisbee High School and worked as a substitute teacher for the Bisbee elementary, middle and high schools. Dylan also founded a non-profit program called “The Friday Project” when, because of budget cuts, Bisbee Unified School District cut Fridays from the school week. The program provided a wide variety of free workshops to kids and teens that were all taught by local residents in an effort to keep kids engaged in learning and exploring their passions in the absence of a traditional public school structure. Dylan’s positive energy and encouraging teaching style has helped so many students reach their music goals. David was born in Nashville, TN (Go Titans!) and began playing guitar at age 12. He holds a BFA in Jazz Guitar Performance from the New School and also has a strong background in hospitality. David is a patient, caring, and enthusiastic teacher. He is excited to build relationships with his students and to inspire a love and a passion for music in each of them. But most of all, he hopes to help each student achieve their potential both as a musician and as a person. As a guitarist, David is a fluid and adept player who loves shredding over complex harmonies as much as playing washy, wild chord voicings with a ton of effects. He is equally skilled and experienced at playing jazz, rock, fusion, metal, funk, neo-soul, indie, and everything in between. But most of all, David believes a player should “sound good at making others sound good.” In April of 2019, David’s band Light Brand released its first record featuring 7 of David’s original songs. The music is an emotional roller coaster of shredding prog rock that fans of bands like Led Zeppelin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra would definitely appreciate. Eric is joining us from Hamilton, Canada. This is his second stint making America “home”. The first was as a scholarship student at Berklee College of Music in Boston studying bass and guitar performance. His professional experience includes everything from bar gigs co-starring the weekly hockey game to cross-country indie tours stuffed in a cramped van to backing up Grammy and Juno (Canadian Grammy) award-winning artists. The genres are equally diverse as the gigs; folk/singer-songwriter, rock, top 40, r&b, country and jazz just to name a few. Although the bass has been Eric’s primary musical instrument, his guitar playing has always held an important role. In fact, during a decade of teaching, most his students have been guitarists...let’s face it, only a select few listen to Jimi Hendrix and want to be Noel Redding! #bassguitar #leadguitar #fingerstyle #16andup #guitar | Eric T.

Leonid later picked up the guitar after hearing blues masters Mississippi Fred McDowell, B.B. King and others, and fell in love with with jazz after hearing Lester Young. The first portion of Leonid’s career was spent in Russia, where he often played with his first mentor and biggest influence, his grandad, pianist Leonid Vintskevich. Before coming to the US, Leonid successfully established himself on the Russian jazz scene, and participated multiple times in the “Jazz Province” Festival, “Lundstrem-fest-100”. He also led his own gigs in the top tier Moscow jazz clubs “Esse”, “Kozlov Club”, and “B.B. King club”, and played as a side man with famous Russian and European jazz musicians like Aleksei Kuznetsov, Lembit Saarsalu, Nick Vintskevich and others. The genres are equally diverse as the gigs; folk/singer-songwriter, rock, top 40, r&b, country and jazz just to name a few.

After graduating from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music in 2021, Leonid is making his way into the New York scene playing regularly in clubs, restaurants, and other venues around the city. In the short time since graduation, Leonid already performed at Caramoor Jazz Festival and James Moody Festival, as well as at clubs like Mezzrow, Flying Lobster, Django, Groove and Ornithology with his co-project “The Octet”. He has also performed as a side man with noticeable musicians like Samara Joy, Don Hahn, Jason Clotter, Nichelle Lewis and others. #5andup #guitar #bassguitar | Leonid

You could say he wrote the book on finger picking--literally, since he is the author of the book "Finger Style Basics for Guitar", which is published by the Guitar School. His interest in the blues is focused mainly on acoustic delta variety (as in Robert Johnson, etc.) and related ragtime styles as in (Mississippi John Hurt, etc.) He enjoys transcribing the old recordings and providing the resulting tabs to his students. He is also a singer-songwriter in the Bob Dylan/Leonard Cohen vein and is the creator and instructor of the Songwriter's Circle course at the Guitar School.
